Why choose Musikgarten for your child?

"Making music, joyfully and purposefully, provides a self-recognition in children that helps them to enjoy the act of learning."
- Dr. Lorna Heyge (Musikgarten's Founder)

Age-specific Curricula

Musikgarten offers instruction tailored to each age level—from your baby, who benefits greatly from being part of a live music environment, to school-age children who delight in our group piano classes.

Beginning with simple activities such as singing, moving, and exploring rhythm instruments, we gradually add levels of complexity as the children grow, expanding their singing repertoire, introducing more complex dances, and building instrumental ensembles. Children who participate in the Musikgarten program inherently "know" the music they will eventually play in later years of group piano instruction.

Research

Music and movement can have a dramatic effect on babies, toddlers, and older children as well. Some studies indicate that early music instruction positively impacts language and literacy development; others point to improved pattern recognition skills, which are the basis for mathematical learning; still others reveal the social and emotional benefits of being involved in music. Given our long-standing reputation as the leader in the field of affordable early music education, Musikgarten can give your child a learning advantage for life.

Musikgarten is an internationally recognized early childhood music curriculum grounded in decades of research in child development, music education, and neuroscience. It is specifically designed to support children from birth to age five in their most formative years of growth.

Music education in early childhood lays the foundation for lifelong learning. For children ages 0–5, Musikgarten provides developmentally appropriate activities that foster:

  • Speech and Language Development: Singing and rhythm work strengthen auditory discrimination, vocabulary, and expressive language.

  • Music Literacy: Children learn to internalize beat, pitch, and melodic patterns—essential pre-reading and pre-math skills.

  • Motor Coordination: Movement activities enhance gross and fine motor control while promoting self-regulation.

  • Social and Emotional Growth: Group music-making builds empathy, cooperation, and confidence.

  • Listening and Concentration Skills: Structured musical play helps children learn to focus and respond to cues—skills that transfer directly to classroom learning.

  • Parent and Teacher Connection: Musikgarten fosters a community where adults and children learn and move together, strengthening bonds and communication.
